Save money this winter and stay warm by taking a comprehensive approach to heating your home. Below are 6 easy tips that can help you stay warm, save money, and conserve energy.

• While at home, set your thermostat as low as you can while still being comfortable.  Changing your thermostat from 72 to 65 for only eight hours a day will automatically cut your heating bill by 10%!  The best idea is to try this when nobody is home, or when everyone in the house is asleep.
• Weather-Proof your home.  Any window that leaks air compromises the heat you are trying to save.  Caulk and weatherstrip any doors and/or windows that aren’t air-tight.
• Replace furnace filters every 1-2 months. 
• Clean and maintain all heating equipment.
• Insulation.  Insulate your attic, ceilings, walls, floors and pipes to help keep the warmth in your home.  Proper insulation will reduce your monthly heating/cooling bill and will pay for itself in no time.
• In the daytime, keep all shades and draperies open that can allow the warmth to naturally enter your home.  Keep them closed at night to protect from the cold and help retain the heat inside
